Where did the battle take place? The Battle of Gallipoli took place in various places on the Gallipoli Peninsula. The Allies first planned to send out the French Navy through the Dardanelles and try to overwhelm the Turks and progress through to Constantinople. They would then send the British through the same line to back up the French. After this they would send the ANZACs to land in the North-Western side to progress through the land. The Ottoman Empire fought for the Germans and the Entente and were the defenders of this area (Gallipoli Campaign, 2013). They planned to place mines and troops on the banks of the Dardanelles to stop the Allies from getting through. Once the ANZACs broke through the Turkish front lines at the shore, they continued on into the inland. Little did they know, the terrain ahead of them would be very hard to make through due to the mountains blocking their progress.
